Artist Statement

"Observational drawing is the technical root of all my artwork. Through observational drawing I am fully exploring the formal arrangements of line and shape. And during the drawing process, the work often pushes beyond the initial visual exploration and moves into metaphor. Most recently, little tangles of wire, string, and other discarded detritus that I’ve gathered while on my daily walks have caught my creative attention. As I visually find my way through the snags and snarls of these objects, following every twist and turn, I notice the meditative labyrinth becoming a metaphor of a way to move through time, life experiences, and memory."
