Glenn Lavezzi
GLENN LAVEZZI, sculptor, has always gravitated toward 3D art. He studied music and history at Kansas State University. His study of the Baroque and Renaissance periods inspired his passion for figurative work. He workshopped with Vala Ola at the Scottsdale School of the Arts and Philippe Faraut at his NY studio and in Colorado.
“We all have a universal sense of beauty. I believe that art connects people. It lifts our spirit . . . . Sculpture is my attempt to illuminate a fleeting moment in time that captures that beauty of the human condition in a permanent medium.”
Lavezzi’s inspirations stem from myth, story, music, dance, and being a father. He is influenced by great works of Michael Angelo and Bernini because of their ability to convey moments of pain and ecstasy. However, instead of still tableaux, Lavezzi wants to push the figure into active forms of movement.
Recently, Lavezzi has completing an intimate series on the Dancer. Portraying both men and women, these forms of intense pose are combined with string instruments or impossibly delicate falling scarves. The pieces range from 19 to 28 inches in height, they are cast in a limited edition and come in a range of patinas from bronze to iron oxide and titanium. They seem to breathe as the dancers taunt muscles hold their pose indefinitely like living music. When he's not teaching sculpture classes at his studio in downtown Overland Park at InterUban Arthouse, Lavezzi is working on a new series. It's called “Women Who Inspire” including such American Political figures as Sherice Davids, Ilhan Omar, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
